Update

Here is a general update on progress across the different themes; as you can see, a lot has been achieved from the Village Plan.

GETTING AROUND – IN THE VILLAGE AND BEYOND

    • Priorities identified and joint meetings held with KCC
    • Bollards in front of Gardeners
    • New directional sign on order
    • TRO process for yellow lines underway – residents and businesses consulted and kept informed
    • Additional wooden bollards installed on Grass verges in School Lane
    • 83 Speed Watch Sessions held in 2018 385 vehicles reported
    • Call for Speed Watch volunteers on website and poster campaign
    • Potential new Speed Watch sites identified – one new site approved
    • New Lighting installed on route to railway station
    • Lobbying for improvements to Govia Thameslink new timetable
    • LTC updates sent out when new information is received
    • Review of Bus Shelters completed

WELLBEING – FEELING GOOD AND FEELING SAFE

    • Defibrillator awareness sessions held for over 200 residents. Fundraising underway to purchase 3 more Defibrillators. Sites for new equipment identified and agreed
    • Monthly Drop In sessions held with Community warden, Parish Councillors. PCSOs hold monthly sessions for residents
    • Village Sports Association progressing options and funding for improvements to the Sports Courts
    • Discussions underway to improve Recreation ground Play equipment and seating – costings being sought
    • Police and Crime Commissioner visited Higham June 2019
    • Emergency Plan in place for severe weather
    • Pavilion improvements underway (e.g. kitchen extended and new units etc fitted) and further fundraising carried out
    • Safer Higham Group inaugural meeting – actions being identified
    • Installation of CCTV considered and not progressed at this stage

COMMUNITY SPIRIT – A SENSE OF BELONGING

    • Recreation ground listed as a Community Asset
    • Volunteer Celebration held 2018
    • Firework displays 2018 and 2019
    • Local Organisation awarded grants to support their aims and deliver activities and events
    • Supported KCC with their pilot for Library Extra – making the library accessible for longer hours

ENVIRONMENT – LOOKING GOOD

    • 300 hours of litter picking, dog Mess Clearance and Gardening in 2018
    • Dog Mess bags funded and available from the Library and Lower Higham Garage
    • Additional litter bins installed and more to come
    • Local Plan meeting held and residents encouraged to respond to consultation
    • Nuralite Planning Application – meeting held and campaign to make sure residents are aware and response with their comments
    • Trees and shrubs on the Recreation Ground – 3 year plan in place for maintenance and improvements
    • Environmental Action Group inaugural meeting held – School Eco Brick Project underway, Partnership working with GBC
    • Pond Improvement and Bee friendly Bus Shelter Projects underway
    • Initial discussions taking place about the area in front of the shops
    • Planning workshop for Parish Councillors held

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION – KNOWING WHAT’S GOING ON

    • New website set up and about to be launched
    • Annual Newsletter and Assembly held 2018 and 2019
